Must-Haves

If you’re planning on hitting the road and want to be as prepared as possible in the process, we suggest the following guides which should be reviewed ahead of your departure for itinerary planning purposes as well as kept within arm’s reach along the road since you never know when you’re going to need a little guidance!2010/2011 Next Exit which lists every exit along every Interstate and details exactly what you will find at each: gas stations (including which brands and if they offer diesel), campgrounds, truck stops, casinos, laundries, retail stores (by name) shopping malls, movie theaters, factory outlet malls, drug stores, hospitals, rest areas, and more.2010/2011 RVer’s Friend which lists every Travel Center in the U.S. and Canada about 6,600 all together and what services each provides to RVers. RVers can determine if a travel center welcomes them for an overnight stay, if it has a dump station, if it sells propane, and if it provides Internet access or utility hookups. And, also very important, the book lists which RV mechanical services are provided.Wal-Mart Atlas points you to more than 4000 Wal-Marts across the country with most allowing free overnight RV parking. The resource also lists all Wal-Marts with their own gas stations, pharmacies, and auto service centers.2011 Travelers Guide to the Firearm Laws of the 50 States is an awesome tool for those RVers who travel with guns since the gun laws in their home state may differ from those they are passing through. Stories are out there where nonresident travelers have been arrested on a firearms felony for violations that wouldn’t be a crime at home and a routine traffic stop suddenly degenerated into a nightmare with the unsuspecting travelers hauled off to jail and facing felony charges. The best defense is knowledge so make sure you’re armed with it!
